Taste of the Med created at Ryedale Hotel and Spa

One of Yorkshire’s leading country hotels and spas has refurbished its poolside suites taking inspiration from the hues of the Mediterranean.

The fire cottage style suites at the Feversham Arms in Helmsley, many of which have their own private terraces, overlooking the hotel pool, have been transformed with a vibrant color palette including azure and powder blue, green olive and yellow ochre. , to inspire a sense of relaxation and vacation.

Philippa Martin of Helmsley-based Pip Interior Designs is the creative force behind the project, working closely with Managing Director, Ingo Wiangke.

He said: ‘This refurbishment of our poolside suites is part of a larger investment planned for the hotel, following an extremely busy 12 months. We were keen to complete the suites for this upcoming summer season, and we are really happy with the result.

“While we are in the heart of the British countryside and many of our guests love the idyllic rural charms of Helmsley, many talk about being transported to the Mediterranean upon entering our poolside terrace. It is this aspect that I wanted Pip to incorporate into his design theme which is more continental in style, playing on the resort feel of this spa hotel.

“It now contrasts beautifully with the more countryside-inspired interiors, which feature heavily throughout our hotel – it also introduces an element of surprise for our guests.

“One of the benefits of working with Pip was that she introduced us to so many talented local tradespeople, artisans and independent retailers – it’s been wonderful to support very local businesses, either from Helmsley himself- same, or from neighboring Kirkbymoorside and Pickering – this community and the ethic of sustainability is also close to our hearts.

Some of the companies that have been involved in this design project include homewares supplied by independent retailer, Bowley & Jackson of Malton and Helmsley, who source a carefully curated selection from Britain and beyond, with a leaning towards the antique French country style; beautifully crafted oak, pine and mango wood furniture by Pickering-based Evelyn Lily, Courthouse Framers of Helmsley, Twig and Twine Florists on Church Street, Helmsley and Homelea Country Interiors, which have a showroom in Barkers Yard, Helmsley and also sell online, specializing in quality British made home and decor items.

Pip added: “It has been such an inspiring project to work on, my creativity has certainly been ignited by this unique setting, I live locally and sometimes working here I have to pinch myself that I haven’t had to travel too away, it feels like a different world, and so I wanted to fully embrace that carefree vacation feeling for guests staying here.

In addition to the five newly renovated pool suites, this four-star hotel offers a further selection of 28 rooms and suites, a spa with relaxation area and outdoor hot tub, and a restaurant awarded two AA rosettes, “The Weathervane”.
