The Allentown Jewish Community Center opened its new outdoor pool with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 13.

The pool, built into the side of the building on 22nd and Washington streets, is open to members for swimming on weekends and is used by JCC campers during the week.

The grand opening also included an outdoor adult exercise class, aqua yoga class, baby and me swim, family swim and pizza night.

The inauguration, which was attended by donors, community partners, government officials and leaders of organizations, also celebrated the renovation of the indoor swimming pool which was completed this year.

The complete reconstruction of the indoor pool, which was over 60 years old, was made possible through the sale of the former JCC camp property in Center Valley, as well as a grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development of Pennsylvania, made possible with the help of State Senator Pat Browne, R-16th.

The new outdoor pool, which can be used by more than 250 JCC summer camp children, was designed and built by Monogram Custom Homes and Pools.

Any member of the community can join the JCC.

Once a member, reservations are required to use the pool.

Only one session per weekend can be booked per member unit.

There is time available on Saturdays from noon to 5:00 p.m. or on Sundays there are swimming lessons from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and water aerobics from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and free swimming from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. All require a reservation.

Call the front desk at 610-435-3571 to make a reservation.
