Chasethecloudsaway brings sunshine to the Spa

Chase the clouds (sunny beach) is the winningest horse at the Opens this season at the Saratoga Casino Hotel and the Chris Petrelli-trained distaff picked up another victory in the Fillies and Mares Open on Monday afternoon.

Sixteen-time winner of his 2021 campaign, Chasethecloudsaway proved that last season was no fluke. On Monday, the five-year-old took the lead in the $16,050 event for the ladies, rising to the top in a fast 27.2 first quarter.

The 4-5 betting favorite was given a bit of a breather in half time before being told to give her best on the final corner by driver Luke Hanners. Chasethecloudsaway kicked late and ended up bringing home a winner by one length.

Last year’s Saratoga Horse of the Year Surreal Feeling (Alek Chartrand) tied for eighth in the Nine Horse Open and came charging late to finish second while So Diva (Brett Crawford) finished third.

CHASETHECLOUDSAWAY REPLAY

Chasethecloudsaway’s win was her fifth at the local Open this year to put her first among all Open horses, both leader and trotter, for most wins in the feature in 22. On Monday, she paid $3.60 to win and led an exacta and a triple which netted $23 and $239.50 respectively. Chasethecloudsaway is owned by David Del Pozzo of Methuen, MA.

Live racing resumes Friday night in Saratoga with an early start time set for 5:00 p.m.
